Abstract
Calculations showed that the efficiency of a thermal screen is strongly reduced by a small gap.
A plastic screen, opened for about 10% reduces the theoretically possible energy saving by about 50%. A gap of about 50% during the night resulted in the same transpiration-level of the crop as when the screen was totally opened.
A plastic screen, opened for about 10% reduces the theoretically possible energy saving by about 50%. A gap of about 50% during the night resulted in the same transpiration-level of the crop as when the screen was totally opened.
Mostly a gap will suffice to control the air humidity through condensation on the roof surface.
The amount of condensation however depends on the transpiration of the crop, the natural air exchange of the greenhouse and the temperature of the covering material.
