Abstract
Calculations from planning models indicate lowest set points of the heating system to be best from an economical point of view.
To realize minimum temperature requirements weather fluctuations have to be considered.
In growth chamber experiments fluctuating of temperature and radiation (period length = 4 days) did not diminish tuber growth rates and did not increase bolting (according to WIEBE and HABEGGER, unpubl.). Therefore the concept of heat sums may be used for a temperature control algorithm.
