Abstract
The heat pulse method for the measurement of sap flow in plant stems has been adapted to be used on green plants.
The flow sensor is essentally flat with a wire heater and two or four integrated circuit temperature sensors.
It can be clipped on to stems of 3 to 15 mm in diameter.

A model is formulated that describes the flow of heat in the sensor and the stem.
It is shown, that the model can give only approximate predictions for the simple configuration (two temperature sensors), and the possibility of accurate predictions is indicated for a modified design with four temperature sensors.

Some details of design are given.
Practical experiences with prototype instruments used on several different greenhouse crops are mentioned, and the use of the sensor in a control system is indicated.
