Abstract
The induction of the flowering process of bromeliads is controled by ethylene.
By means of ACC-application one induces a low amount of ethylene, produced by the plant itself, needed to start the flowering process.
Ethephon treatment results in a release of ‘bulk-ethylene’. Only a small part of this is necessary for flowering induction, the greatest part will cause a decrease in growth and development of the inflorescence.
The presented results show that ACC-treatments of bromeliads will allow the growers to obtain flowering plants of a better quality than in the case of high ethephon concentrations, advised in practice.
