Abstract
When a mixed population of bacteria was added to the vase solution, water uptake and transpiration of roses (var.
Sonia) was reduced.
The effect was only found at 107-108 bacteria per ml water, and higher concentrations.

At 3×109 bacteria per ml water the roses wilted within an hour.
Bent neck was observed only at this high bacterial number.
