Abstract
Flower-bud abscission of Lilium X ‘Enchantment’ was reduced to ca. 20% of the control by foliar sprays with silver thiosulphate (STS) in greenhouse experiments during winter time.
Also, foliar sprays with STS greatly improved flower-bud opening when cut flowers were placed in water.
This improvement was at least as good as by pulsing cut flowers with STS. When plants were grown and sprayed with STS instead of supplemental illumination, all flower-buds opened during vase-life, even after a dry storage in 0.5 ppm ethylene at 20°C for 24 hours.
