Abstract
The experiment was conducted under the open field conditions during two consecutive growing seasons.
Two Cucurbita pepo summer squash cultivars: Lebanese and Zucchini Grey which are commercially grown in Iraq were chosen for this investigation.
Compound fertilizer, NPK /18:18:5/ was added as side dressing in three levels: 0, 500, 1000 kg/ha.
A total of six experimental treatments representing all possible combinations were set in a randomized complete block design with three replications.
Data were recorded for several growth and yield components characters.
The highest estimates for plant height, number of branches and leaves/plant were obtained from plants fertilized with 1000 kg/ha.
While, highest total yield, fruit weight and diameter/plant resulted from plants treated with 500 kg/ha.
