Abstract
A simple and rapid procedure for determination of nitrate in petiole sap* is presented.
Nitrate concentration was measured using Merckoquant strips which were found to be quite accurate.
There was a strong response of the test to nitrogen supply in all trials.
Sap nitrate concentration gave a good indication of current N nutrition of celery and spinach.
The rapid and simple nitrate saptest can be used to detect N-deficiency as well as accumulation of NO3 in celery and spinach and thus to control the quality of some vegetable crops.
