Abstract
Three low-chilling apple cultivars (Anna, Ein Shemer, Dorsett Golden) on M 106 rootstock, from U.S.A., were planted in 1983–84 at Risabah (Province of Dhamar), elevation 2 350 m, latitude 14 45’N. The trees were pruned to spindle bush and open center forms.
The production started in 1987. Physiological observations were collected and cultural practices were carried out to induce flower bud initiation and to increase yield.
All three cultivars gave good production.
Six low-chilling peach cultivars (Flordaking, Flordagold, Flordaprince, Flordasun, Flordabelle and Flordabeauty) and one nectarine cultivar (Sunred) on Nemagard peach rootstock, from U.S.A., were planted in 1983 at Risabah.
The trees were pruned as open centers; and production started in 1986. Physiological observations were collected and practices were carried out to improve yield.
Two varieties (Flordaking and Flordagold) are promising, however both species showed micro-element deficiencies and chlorosis in the leaves because of high soil calcium levels.
