Abstract
Sprays of paclobutrazol at 500 mgl-1 on 12 week old Red Delicious apple seedlings significantly reduced vegetative growth and increased root : shoot ratios.
Root dry weight, relative growth rate, net assimilation rate and leaf area ratio were not affected.
The reduction in shoot growth was associated with a redistribution of 14C-labelled assimilates in the plant.
The response was greatest one day after treatment but was still evident 14 days later and to a lesser extent 28 days after treatment.
