Abstract
This investigation was carried out on a kiwifruit orchard cv.
Hayward planted with vines obtained by micropropagation, hardwood cutting and by grafting onto ‘D1’. Over the first three years, canopy growth was monitored, while the various organs of the plant were studied for the partitioning of assimilates and dry weight at the end of each growth season.
In the third year, budbreak and fruitful bud percentage, the fruitfulness ratio, yield and fruit characteristics were recorded.
Micropropagated and grafted plants showed greater vigour with more pronounced autumn growth than plants obtained from cuttings.
This enhanced vigour also affected the number of mixed buds per plant and hence yield per hectare.
