Abstract
Sixteen year old ‘Culemborg’ peach trees were trunk injected with zero, 0.5, 5 and 50 mg GA3 just prior to full bloom to determine translocation and degradation over the fruit growth period.
Gibberellin A3 extracts were purified and isolated by HPLC and quantified by radioimmunoassay.
Gibberellin A3 was rapidly taken up into the xylem stream and high concentrations were present in flowers, fruitlets and leaves.
There was a positive relationship between amount of gibberellin injected and the gross concentration detected in the different structures.
Injected gibberellin A3 appears to interfere with the endogenous regulation of gibberellin concentrations.
Degradation of gibberellin A3 is more rapid in fruit than in leaves.
