Abstract
Urea (3–6%) applied during full bloom or at the end of petal fall (in relatively weak concentration 1.5 – 3%) caused effective fruitlet thinning, in Gala and Gloster cultivars.
This treatment did not bring about leaf or shoot injuries and fruit russetting.
When used together with NAA, urea increased its effectiveness.
Due to this phenomenon the needed concentration of NAA could be lower and such mixture is safer for environment (trade name of the mixture: Pomonit Extra 110 SC). Another method of lowering the concentration of NAA was the addition of a mixture of paraffin oil with wetting agent (preparation Atpol) to the spray solution.
