Abstract
Blackberry breeding programme has been conducted in Poland since 1979. Its main aim was to obtain winter hardy cultivars with thornless, erect canes.
Plant material used for crossings included clones from breeding programme of Arkansas University (USA), and SCRI (Scotland), Black Satin and Darrow cvs., and selected forms of native blackberries from Carpathian region in Poland.
Two thornless, erect selections were obtained and are being tested.
Although, they are more winter hardy than Black Satin, still hardy enough for some cold winters in Poland.
