Abstract
The big bud mite is the most troublesome pest of black currants.
It feeds on their buds decreasings significantly the yield of fruit.
Additionally, it is a carrier of a very dangerous virus disease – reversion.
Some increase of the big bud mite population has been recorded for several years.
Its chemical control is very difficult as the only right time to use insecticides is when the mites leave the buds, which coincides with the flowering period.
Chemicals which could be applied should not be harmful to bees.

In the Research Institute of Pomology and Floriculture some investi-gations on the big bud mite control with the new insecticides and acaricide have been carried out for several years.
