Abstract
In The Netherlands red and white currants are only marketed for fresh consumption.
Therefore, there is much interest in advancing and delaying the harvest period.
Recently a number of early and late ripening cultivars has been under trial and some are now recommended.
New early cultivars are Junifer (red), Zitavia and Werdavia (white), new mid-season cultivars are Cassa (red) and Albatros (white) and new late ripening cultivars are Roodneus and Augustus (red) and Primus and Blanka (white). The new Dutch cultivars Cassa, Roodneus, Augustus and Albatros are described extensively.
