Abstract
The concentration of ethylene gas was measured in storage chambers under controlled atmosphere and simple cold-storage at Hungarofruct, Budaörs

The concentration of ethylene gas in storage chambers under controlled atmosphere reached levels of 150–200 ppm, but in simple cold-stores the amount was only about 30 ppm.
This can be explained by ventilation and airing.
Consequently, in simple cold-stores where the oxygen present is responsible for ripening, ethylene gas plays a role of minor importance.

In our comparative model experiments we found two effective methods for the removal of ethylene: catalytic combustion and reaction with potassium permanganate.
No suitable carbon-based adsorbent could be found.
