FACTORS AFFECTING QUALITY OF FRESH AND DRIED FIG FRUITS

The edible fig, Ficus carica L., is commercially grown in the Mediterranean countries and in the other parts of the world possessing similar climatic conditions.
The dried fruits are of more concern for the world market.
The main variety for drying is Sarilop (=Calimyma) both in Turkey and in California.
Although it is known as the standard drying variety, significant quality losses appear during its production.

In this paper, factors affecting the fresh and dried fruit quality of Sarilop figs have been discussed.
Effects of some climatic factors and soil texture and fertility on fruit quality parameters were investigated in the samples collected from orchards located in the Small and Big Meander Valleys, the major fig producing region in Turkey.
