Abstract
Bankroft and Gloster apples harvested on two different dates and Cortland, Spartan and Idared apples harvested just before climacteric were coated with Pro-long and stored for 4 or 6 months at 3°C. After storage quality of fruits was checked.
Coated apples were higher in titratable acidity and their skin was greener.
They contained more internal CO2 and C2H4. These effects were associated with depressed rates of carbon dioxide and ethylene production in the coated fruits.
There was no effect of coating on firmness and soluble solids content.
Pro-long had limited influence on fruit spoilage.
