Abstract
The attacks of herbivory insects induce a sequence of changes in secondary chemistry of aspen leaves particularly the conversion of salicortin and tremulacin into salicin and tremuloïdin respectively.
Experiments of mechanical and Chrysomela tremulae larvae attacks, controlled over a period of three days, showed that only insect attack induces an important increase of tremuloïdin with in parallel a similar decrease of salicortin and tremulacin, 12 hours after the beginning of the test.
The propagation of the phenomenon to nearest branches with a delay of 6 to 12 hours was observed.
These chemical changes explained by an enzymatic cleavage process characterize a short time induced defense (STID) response targeted by the plant at the attacking insect.
