Abstract
This study was carried out during autumn, 1995. Nine different nutrient solutions containing 100, 200 and 300 ppm of N and K in various combinations were tested on cucumbers (cv.
Alara) grown in glasshouse in perlite.
Alara) grown in glasshouse in perlite.
Nitrogen concentrations were found to influence plant growth, yield and fruit quality.
The use of 300 ppm N decreased plant growth and total yield.
Symptoms of powdery mildew were lowest at 200 ppm N+200 or 300 ppm K where yields were in general high.
It was concluded that the N concentration of the nutrient solution should not be more than 200 ppm and the K concentration should be between 200–300 ppm for profitable cucumber production in perlite.
