INFLUENCE OF VINE CHARACTERISTICS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS ON THE PERFORMANCES OF VINE CLONES

Abstract
Development of a clone family by pre-selection, intermediate and principal selection requires 20 years in Germany (Schöffling et al., 1993). The costs incurred are 150,000 DM (Schöffling, 1997). For this reason it is very important to reach a high degree of certainty in the set breeding aims.
In the research that is to hand it is attempted to reach an increase in the effectiveness of clone breeding with the help of multiple regression.
The research highlights the influences which the breeding aims of growth, grape yield, must- weight and grape rot have on the varieties Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc as well as 2 clones of each.
In the linear formations used, altogether 13 characteristics were taken into consideration; 9 of these were vine characteristics and 4 were climatic characteristics.
At the same time each one of the 9 vine characteristics appears as a dependent variable (breeding aim). From variety to variety and from clone to clone the effects are similar.
The maximal individual influence from a possible 100 % overall influence reached 22 % in the flowering, 58 % in the pH value, and 60 % in both the must-weight and the grape yield.
The regressions with these especially useful characteristics showed in comparative assessment to be analogue.
Especially useful characteristics which are possible for supporting the pursuance of breeding aims are pH and flowering in the growth selection, must-weight and flowering in the grape yield selection, grape yield in the must-weight selection, and pH and grape yield in the grape rot selection.
