Abstract
This study was conducted out to select superior walnut types with lateral bud fruitfulness and maximum of nuts per cluster in seedling population of Niksar between 1997 1998. The lateral fruitfulness character is the important factor that determined the potential yield.
The lateral fruit bearing types are susceptible to bacterial blight and have an early leafing out.
The important goal is to select types with lateral fruit bearing and late leafing . The percentage of lateral bud fruitfulness varied 75 100 % and the mean number of nuts per cluster varied between 3 18 in selected types in 1997. One of selected types has a very late leafing but the yield is low.
A negative relationship was observed between lateral bud fruitfulness ant late leafing.
Nut weight varied between 9.7 g 16.30 g , kernel weight varied between 5.11 8.85 g in selected types.
Karabodur walnut type has 18 nuts per cluster, the nut weight was recorded as 9.7 g, kernel weight was determined as 5.23 g, the colour of shell and kernel was observed dark brown and light cream respectively.
We have accepted this types as grape walnut.
