Abstract
The control of codling moth is critical in the management of other insects and mite pest because insecticides used for its control frequently kill their natural enemies.
Thus we tried to use other product to limit the problems.
We tested other methods which control only this pest and at the same time preserve the environement and the natural enemies.
In the Walnut Experimental Station (in the South East of France), we have been using the “granulosis virus” for over 8 years, “Bacillus thuriengensis” and mating disruption.
The result with “granulosis virus” and with mating disruption has the same impact as chemical products.
The result with “Bacillus thuriengensis” is slightly less interesting.
With the “granulosis virus”, we have some reserves: it costs more money and we have to go to the orchard more often because its persistance does not last long.
We have showed the natural enemies have not been destroyed that’s the reason why we hope we do not have to treat specifically against mite pest.
Our first result with mating disruption was good but it is expensive.
We need a lot of time to put the confusers for each tree.
A big surface is needed.
We know therefore that we have a few new solutions to preserve our orchards against the codling moth.
