Abstract
Because of slow growth and yellow appearance of Persian walnut explants in DKW basal medium, two experiments were conducted to compare the effects of sucrose and glucose as carbohydrate source as well as three nitrogen treatments on its shoot growth and green appearance. First experiment showed that sucrose was a better source of carbohydrate than glucose and three genotypes, namely RJ226, Zia-Abad and Daneshkadeh all responded better to sucrose. In second experiment, only RJ226 genotype was used because of its better growth response to culture conditions. Doubling the ammonium nitrate of basal medium (DKW) resulted to the longest shoots while two times of calcium nitrate had lower effect. Adding potassium nitrate (1900 mg/l) had no significant effect on shoot length compared to the control and it resulted to paler leaves than all other treatments.
