Abstract
Three selections of Actinidia deliciosa and two of Actinidia chinensis, obtained from the breeding programme at the CRA-FRU, Rome, were evaluated for some years in the CRA-FRU experimental orchards.
All genotypes fitted the commercial parameters of the EU Regulation n. 1673/2004; in detail, R XIII 134 (A. deliciosa) and R VII 130 (A. chinensis) had an anticipated ripening date of 35 and 40 days respect to ‘Hayward’, respectively.
Furthermore, among the evaluated genotypes of A. deliciosa, R XIII 134 selection showed the highest values in total phenolic compounds (242.0 mg/100 g fw), vitamin C (159.5 mg/100 ml) and antioxidant activity (621.3 µm/100 g fw) and, among the genotypes of A. chinensis, R VII 130 selection showed the highest values in total phenolic compounds (271.6 mg/100 g fw), vitamin C (145.5 mg/100 ml) and antioxidant activity (691.2 µm/100 g fw). Fruit of these selections showed interesting nutraceutical aspects in comparison with ‘Hayward’ (A. deliciosa) and ‘Hort 16A’ (A. chinensis) cultivars.
