Abstract
The tomato fruitworm, Helicoverpa armigera, seriously limits the production of Solanaceae in the Niayes of Senegal.
However, it presents an important parasitic procession.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of two host plants on the efficacy of the parasitoids of the tomato fruitworm.
Two speculations (potato and tomato) were prospected in the dry season for two consecutive years in the localities of Cayar and Mboro.
The caterpillars were taken from 50 plants per plot of each speculation and reared individually in the laboratory.
The rate of infestation of potato plants by the pest Helicoverpa armigera is much higher than the rate of infestation of tomato plants.
Four species of parasitoids were identified in the potato plots including three in the tomato plots.
The natural regulation of the pest is mainly ensured by Tachinaria in potato plots and by Meteorus laphygmarum in tomato plots.
For the parasitism of the two speculations combined, the species Meteorus laphygmarum is more efficient, followed by Tachinaria, Cotesia vestalis and Diadromus sp.
The potato attracts more species of parasitoids than the tomato.
