Abstract
Pumpkins (Cucurbita moschata and Cucurbita maxima; Cucurbitaceae) are a worldwide economic crop that contains abundant nutrients.
This study tasted and scored the fruits of 30 pumpkins cultivars planted in the Guangdong region, and quantitatively analyzed their important nutritional and quality traits.
Additionally, the correlation between various nutritional and quality parameters was analyzed.
The statistical results of quantitative analysis showed that the nutritional quality of these 30 pumpkin cultivars varied considerably, with coefficients of variation (CoVs) ranging between 12.73 and 118.42%, with an average CoV of 62.6%. Correlation analyses showed that taste score was correlated with soluble solids, starch, sucrose, malic acid and carotenoids.
This study quantitatively analyzed the nutrition and quality of pumpkin fruits, and studied their correlation.
These research results provide a material basis and standard system for evaluating the quality of pumpkins.
