A COMPARISON OF SOLAR HEATED GREENHOUSES IN WOOSTER, OHIO (USA) AND MALAGA (SOUTHERN SPAIN)
After an experimental collector was tested and an efficiency curve was established, a collector model was combined with a CSMP-III computer simulation program for greenhouses.
The model simulated the behavior of a solar collector and greenhouse heating system and was run to predict the thermal performance of the system in two distinctly different areas – Ohio (U.S.A.) and Southern Spain.
Charts were generated to be used as design tools.
The charts relate the solar heat fraction, the greenhouse area and the collector area for different kinds of greenhouse covers.
Special emphasis was given to evaluating the effect of greenhouse thermal insulation, either movable or fixed, to improve the performance of an active solar collection system.
A solar heated greenhouse project, conducted on a demonstration scale testing facility, started to run in October, 1982. The overall objective was to evaluate the use of plastic collectors in Almeria (Spain). Preliminary results are given in this paper.
