Abstract
We have studied several physical and chemical characteristics of the tuffs from Olot, thinking of the increasing use of volcanic "lapilli" as horticultural substrate.
We have determined: particles size, bulk density, particle density, porosity, water retention curve, maximum hydric capacity, hydraulic conductivity and thermic conductivity.
We have also measured: pH, electric conductimetry, cationic exchange capacity and exchange basis.
Samples were obtained from four different volcanos, with a total of eleven samples, one of them a comercial one.
