Abstract
Experimental work in 1981 had shown that when vermiculite was used as a growth medium one had to supply magnesium or deficiency would result.
An experiment is described using mixtures of ground calcitic limestone, dolomitic limestone and gypsum and with and without the inclusion of a gel, which shows that gel improves the water-holding capacity, increases yield and gives heavier tomatoes.
