Abstract
A greenhouse study was conducted with chrysanthemums in peat-Styrofoam potting mix to determine the threshold values of toxic concentrations of Mn and Cu in the substrate, and the tolerance of plants to concentrations of Mn and Cu above the threshold levels in the substrate.
Three separate trials each were carried out for Mn and Cu, using pH ranges in the substrate of 5.5 to 6.0, 6.5 to 7.0, and 4.5 to 5.0, respectively.
Three levels of Mn and Cu were applied to the potting mix at the 5.5 to 6.0 and 6.5 to 7.0 pH ranges, and four levels of Mn and Cu treatments were added to the substrate at the 4.5 to 5.0 pH range; in addition, Fe, Zn, B, and Mo were applied.
Two varieties of chrysanthemums were grown in treated substrate; there were four replications.
