Abstract
The mediterranean coastal region of Turkey has great potential for early vegetable production.
But since the soils have been severely eroded along this region, to find a media for plant growth and proper usage of it are the most important issues for development of greenhouse cultivation.
The effect of various soil materials such as organic soil and volcanic ashes on yield, quality and early production of tomatoes were investigated in a plastic covered greenhouse situated at the experiment station of agricultural faculty.
The results indicated that volcanic ash material can be used as soil media in greenhouses not only for higher yield but also for early cropping due to its favorable physical conditions.
