Abstract
For the past 5 years the extension in the application of the growing substrate Grodan mineral wool has increased violently.
The reason for this is that the product is accepted as being a good growing medium.
Besides from the fact that we see good growing results, it is also a fact that energy can be saved when using Grodan, as steaming of the soil can be avoided, and it is not necessary to heat up the soil before planting.
Finally, it is possible to start the crop later than usual and then still get the same early yields because of a fast starting.

It is also labour saving to use Grodan (i.e. less costs for wages), as the product together with the growing instructions from our advisers give the growers a possibility for a better control of crops, and in this way they can reduce the cutting, the control of diseases as well as the cleaning.

Today the application of Grodan is well-known in most West European countries, and it is especially used within the fields of cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, melons, carnations, roses, Chrysanthemum and Cymbidium.
Grodan is also widely used for propagation of vegetables and for propagation of many different kinds of pot plants.
Poinsettia, Campanula, Nerium, Passiflora and Pelargonia etc.
For the production of pot plants, the Grodan granulate is normally mixed up with peat, however, we see a heavily increasing interest for the application of Grodan blocks and slabs for mother plant areas, especially when growing Begonia, Poinsettia, Chrysanthemum and Kalanchoe.
If the glasshouse field is left out of account, rising application of Grodan is seen for indoor planting arrangement, roof gardens and soil improvement.

The following describes practical results of a good cucumber as well as tomato crop in a Danish nursery:
