Abstract
Strawberry plants cv.
Douglas were cultivated by the sack culture method, without recycled nutrient solution on a steep gradient surface.
Experiments were conducted to evaluate substrates (peat-perlite and pine bark-perlite), the type of sack (a single big sack, two small paired sacks and two small paired sacks wrapped in a transparent plastic sheet) and their position on the slope (horizontally aligned and slope aligned).

The early yield and total yield was monitored.
Results indicated that slope aligned sacks, peat-perlite substrate and small paired sacks produced significantly earlier.
These differences were maintained in total yield for sack position and type of sack but not for type of substrate, small paired sacks wrapped in plastic improved the earliest yield.

The advantages of this method as compared with the traditional crop with respect to soil and solar energy utilization are also discussed.
