EFFECTS OF CHEMICALS ON BUD BREAK OF PISTACHIOS UNDER MILD CLIMATE CONDITIONS
During 1993–94 winter period there was about 230 chill units and there was a lack of chilling.
In this experiment dormancy breaking chemicals such as KNO3 (2 %) and Dormex (1 % and 2 %) and the combinations of KNO3 and Dormex with Armobreak (1 %) were used to break bud dormancy of pistachio cultivars (Antep, Siirt and Ohadi) and Male-1 type.
Armobreak+Dormex applications were found more efficient than KNO3 or Armobreak+KNO3 applications on breaking dormancy of both flower and vegetative buds of Siirt female cultivar.
Also similar effects were obtained from Male-1 type.
Although the chilling requirement of Ohadi cultivar was higher than Antep and Siirt cultivars, KNO3 application was more successful on breaking dormancy of Ohadi flower buds (Küden et al. 1992).
