Abstract
The ultrastructure of shoot apices of pistachio grown in vitro was carried out to characterize shoot-tip necrosis at the cellular level.
The transmission electron microscopy investigation showed that the early signs of shoot-tip necrosis consisted of invagination of the plasmalemma.
As symptoms progressed, an extreme disintegration of membranes and organelles leading to total cell autolysis was observed.
