Abstract
Syria is considered one of the main pistachio growing country in the world.
The trees are grown in dry or semi dry and sandy areas with a 200 to 300 mm precipitation.

During the period 1962–1992, an important development occurred in the planting of pistachio in Syria and Syria today is considered as in fourth position in the world.
Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for the pistachio production and to export the surplus, to look the burden to establish the governmental nurseries.
Syria has now surplus of pistachio nuts for export to the neighboring countries.

Syria’s nursery plant production is amounted to 1.3 million grafted plants and 1.3 million seedling in 1992.

The main pistachio nut growing area is spread in Aleppo-Hama-Edleb region.
In this area there are 4 pistacia germplasm bank.
