THE EFFECT OF THE HELIUM-NEON LASER IRRADIATION OF CUCUMBER SEEDS ON THE PHYSIOLOGICAL CHARACTERS OF PLANTS GROWN UNDER WATER STRESS CONDITIONS

Abstract
The investigation was carried out in an unheated greenhouse.
Seeds from the salad cultivar Gergana were treated with irradiation using a helium-neon laser at 632.8 nm wavelength and an output power of 20 mwt.
As a control, untreated seeds were used.
Plants in the development stage of 5–6 leaves were put in post using 6 replications.
The influence of irradiation on the behavior of plants using 3 different water regimes was studied: 1) irrigation with maximum (100 %) water requirement; 2) irrigation with 75 % of water requirement; 3) irrigation with 50 % of water requirement.

The relationship between laser irradiation and the water requirement to the photosynthetic productivity of plants was estimated using indices.
The irradiation of cucumber seeds increased the quantity of the photosynthetic product and the content of plastid pigments in leaves.
The exiding in relation to the unirradiated variants was respectively 12.6–25.2 % for dry phytomass per plant and 7.7–19.2 % for content of plastid pigments in leaves.
The water requirement influenced the radiobiological effect.
The best results were with irradiation with 75 % of the water requirement.
