A STUDY ON THE POSSIBILITY FOR INCREASING THE ADAPTABILITY IN TOMATOES

Possibilities for increasing the adaptability of tomatoes were studied.
Heterogeneous hybrid populations of tomatoes paired with successfully chosen parent components have a higher total plasticity and more stable indicators concerning early ripening and productivity of the plants.
This is so not only in comparison with the homozygous lines and varieties, but also in comparison to some F₁ hybrids.
For the creation of heterogeneous hybrid populations, F₁ hybrid is used as a mother parent, and the specially selected line for a father parent.
The three parent lines must be close in plant habit and fruit weight and, if possible, differ in their disease resistance.
This provides greater homogeneity of sowing and production, and low variability for the economically important characteristics.
The creation of heterogeneous hybrid populations does not contradict the program for receiving and using F₁ heterotic hybrids and direct varieties of tomatoes, but supplements it.
