Abstract
A study was carried out on seedling trees of pecan in Himachal Pradesh to assess the nature and extent of genetic divergence.
Highest coefficient of variation was recorded for yield efficiency (100%), trunk cross sectional area (82.88%) followed by yield (48.34%). Maximum inter cluster distance of 13.69 was observed between cluster 3 and 9 and minimum 2.31 between cluster 6 and 7 in case of tree, foliage and floral characters.
Similarly, in nut and kernel characters, the coefficient of variability for different metric characters ranged between 8.23 to 31.91 per cent.
Highest inter-cluster distance was 7.104 between cluster 5 and 10. The lowest intra-cluster distance suggest the narrow range of variation among different genotypes present in that cluster while the higher inter-cluster distance represent the wider range of variability among the clusters The genotypes of these clusters can be utilized for introgressing their useful traits in commercial pecan cultivars.
