Abstract
Sweet pepper does not have many mutant genes beneficial for the improvement of the crop.
However, the efficient usage of some of them in breeding has been already well known and has been further achieved in the present work.
Mutant genes of sterility and high
-carotene content were used in this research to develop a hybrid with high
-carotene content and vitamin C, tolerant to verticillium diseases.
The inheritance of the character High
-carotene content was studied.
A fertile series of lines was developed by means of reciprocal selection with orange-red pericarp colour, differing in their plasticity, fruit shape and colour, length of vegetation period, tolerance to Verticillium wilting disease.
The best fertile lines with complex economic-valuable characters were pyramided by genes of sterility and high
-carotene content.
The new hybrid cultivar Vitamin was developed.
