Abstract
The goal of this study is to develop a new process of essential oil extraction assisted by micro waves, and its comparison with the process of extraction per drive with the conventional water vapor.
With this intention, the essential oil of lavender flowers was extracted, and an optimization of the operating conditions was carried out.
Two methods were used: a parametric study and an optimization by planning of the experiments.
The selected parameters are the power of heating by microwaves and the water vapor flow.
The experimental design adopted is the centered composite plan.
The study of the kinetics of extraction was undertaken and analyses by CG and CG/SM allowed determining the chemical composition of essential oil.
The essential oil insulated by drive with the water vapor assisted by microwaves is quantitatively (output) and qualitatively (chemical composition) similar to that obtained by drive with the conventional water vapor.
However, the process of extraction assisted by microwaves is more powerful with a considerable profit concerning the duration of extraction (6 min versus 30 min) and consequently consumption in energy.
