Impact of environmental factors on the growth and fructification of some walnut cultivars in Romania’s north-east area

Walnut (Juglans regia L.) is a fruit species with high demands on environmental conditions, which is why breeding programs have focused on studying genotypes tolerant to late spring frosts; the timing and type of flowering are important factors that increase production.
The present paper examines the behavior of 10 walnut genotypes, analyzing the degree of dichogamy, flowering period, growth, and fruiting under the climatic conditions of northeastern Romania.
Observations from two years of study (2022-2023) indicate that the flowering period varies from year to year and is directly influenced by environmental factors, particularly temperature and precipitation.
At the same time, the duration of the vegetation period is directly correlated with environmental factors.
Over the two years of study, there were significant differences, so ‘Miroslava’ required 188 days from bud swelling to leaf fall in 2022 and 214 days in 2023.
