Contributions and perspectives to the promotion of apple cultivars with disease resistance in modern cropping systems

Abstract
Voineşti Research and Development Station for Fruit Growing (SCDP Voineşti) has made a significant contribution to the promotion and expansion of apple cultivars with disease resistance in modern cultivation systems, resulting in apples with reduced contamination and a positive impact on environmental protection.
The setting in SCDP Voineşti of some experimental modules with disease-resistant cultivars from abroad or own creations demonstrates the performance attributes capable of competing in terms of production potential and fruit quality, with classic cultivars or those from abroad grown in modern orchards after the year 2000, for private producers, from the Dâmboviţa Orchard Pool.
The cultivation of disease-resistant apple cultivars in a high-density system will significantly change growers’ concepts and the gradual replacement of the assortment, which, in the new plantations, is the result of the performing economic technology, representing the main factor in the establishment of orchards that produce organic fruits.
In the experimental module established in 2009, with the highest production potential recorded in the period 2019-2023, the cultivar that stands out is ‘Goldrush’ with 42.1 t ha-1, followed by ‘Topaz’, ‘Rubinola’, and ‘Redix’ with 36.3-39.1 t ha-1. Productivity test recorded at full production potential in 7 apple cultivars with disease resistance, creations of SCDP Voineşti, cultivated at the rate of 2,857 trees ha-1, nominate as the most productive cultivars: ‘Iris’, ‘Real’, ‘Remar’, ‘Inedit’, ‘Valery’, ‘Cezar’, and ‘Brumar’, with productions of 38-42 t ha-1. The presented disease-resistant apple cultivars lend themselves to promotion in modern cropping systems and certainly meet the demands of producers sensitive to economic efficiency, with high production potential and quality fruit that will meet the ever-increasing consumer demands.
