The effects of 1-naphthaleneacetic acid to prevent preharvest drop and improve fruit quality of ‘Gala must’ and ‘Idared’ apple cultivars

Abstract
The large fruits obtained in the crown of some apple cultivars favor the onset of premature fruit drop before harvest, without accumulating the color specific to the cultivar.
The aim of the research was to evaluate the effectiveness of 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (Obsthormon 24a) product on ‘Gala’ and ‘Idared’ grafted on rootstock M9 to maintain the physiological balance in the plant and keep the fruit in the crown as much as possible at the time of harvesting.
In order to study different doses and treatment periods, an experiment was organized in vegetation period of 2017 year with the following gradation: 1) Control (spray with water); 2) NAA 15 ppm; 3) NAA 22.5 ppm; 4) NAA 30 ppm; 5) NAA 37.5 ppm; 6) NAA 15+15 ppm; 7) NAA 15+22.5 ppm.
It was determined that the NAA can be included in the technological system to prevent premature fruit drop before harvest in apple production from ‘Gala must’ and ‘Idared’ when the treatment was carried out in two periods, at doses of
15+15 ppm and 15+22.5 ppm, respectively.
The first treatment is applied in the first decade of July, when fruit bud differentiation on the apple starts, and the next one 15 days before harvest of the studied cultivars.
