Abstract
All tomato cultivars, hybrids and lines cultivated at different locations in Egypt were found susceptible to tomato yellow leaf curl virus ( TYLCV ). The virus was epidemic in fall season at Giza, Fayoum and Esmaelia provinces, while it had low incidence at Nubaria (Beheira) and Sabaheia (Alexandria) districts.

Plant density affect the natural spread of the disease.
Percentage of infection decreased in case of 3 plants/hill when compared with one plant/hill density.

Insecticide treatment of tomato plants in the seed bed followed by treatment in the field or rouging of infected plants at early stages of growth reduced the incidence of the disease.

Pattern of TYLCV spread in tomato fields showed the role of insect on dissiminating virus from sources inside or outside the field.

Chemical control of the virus vector in early stages of growth in a wide scale application ( about 6 000 feddans) gave positive results in reducing virus infection and sequently increasing yield.
