Abstract
It is demonstrated that, in tomato, leaf age is a major determinant in the response to stress in terms of ethylene biosynthesis.
Whereas young leaves produce as much or more ethylene than older leaves under non-stressed conditions, the imposition of drought leads to depression of ethylene biosynthesis in younger leaves but an increase in older leaves.
