Abstract
The onion cultivar “Roja Arequipeña” was characterized in two locations in Arequipa (La Joya Antigua and Campina, 1552 mosl and 2400 mosl, respectively), using IBPGR descriptors and other descriptors proposed.
The most important ecological variation and agronomics characteristics were evaluated.
This onion cultivar has waxy leaves, round flatened to pear shaped bulbs, light red color, thick outer layer, non-persistent and very pungent.
Most of the IBPGR descriptors were useful.
Variations among quantitative characteristics were observed and qualitative characteristics were stable
