Abstract
Development of a new crop includes a combination of superior plant material, production technology and an effective marketing strategy.
If any of these three factors is not properly developed and fully implemented, the chance of success is greatly diminished.
The purpose of this presentation is to review the current international floriculture trade and to summarize our observations and conclusions on the process of new crops development.
Emphasis will be given to potted plants, since potted plants can not be economically transported long distances and they must be developed and evaluated to supply to the consumers in national, regional, or local markets.
